We are wrapping up our study of the northeast region in social studies. Students will be reviewing what they have learned in class today and tomorrow and will be taking the test this Friday. They will need to know the states and capitals of the region as well as some information about the climate, landmarks, land, water, and culture of each region. The link below can be used at home for students to practice the states and capitals.
yourchildlearns.com/mappuzzle/us-states-capitals-regions.html This year I will be using the website SignUpGenius.com to schedule our November conferences. Below you will find the link to my page where you can choose a time that works best for you. If you are coming to the Welcome Back Night tonight, I will have Chromebooks available for you to sign up then!
www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0e4ba4a72da2ff2-conferences Students have their first list of spelling words in their planners. This week our words all have either the long e or the long o sound. Students will be tested on these words on Friday, September 23rd. Below is a link to my Spelling City page where students can use this week's words to play practice games.
https://www.spellingcity.com/misschamplin/ Starting tonight, students will be bringing home their AR journals as part of their nightly homework. After they do their 20 minutes of reading, they need to write a short summary of what they read. Four to five sentences a night is all they need. Please also remember to sign your child's planner each night. Feel free to use the planner as a communication tool as well. If you have any quick questions or concerns, you could write them in the planner and I will get back to you that way. As always, please feel free to call or email me with any questions!

Welcome back to Willett! I hope everyone had a fantastic summer vacation! We are back in action in Room 003 and ready to have a great school year! Please keep in mind that our classroom gets extremely hot this time of year. Students should bring a water bottle every day to keep hydrated.
Students will have a social studies test on Thursday, May 5th. The test will focus on the states in the west region of the United States. Students will need to know the states and capitals along with information about landmarks, climate, culture, and products and natural resources.
http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/web_games.htm In an effort to be able to teach both spelling and grammar in a complete and effective way, I have begun teaching these two subjects on alternating weeks. As a result, students will only have a new list of spelling words every other week. On weeks that I do not teach a new spelling principle, we will be working on a grammar skill instead. On Fridays of a spelling week, students will have their spelling test. On Fridays of a grammar week, students will be given a quiz on the grammar skill that we worked on all week.
This week is our first grammar week. We are focusing on common and proper nouns. Students will take a quiz on this on Friday. Next week is a short week with only 2 school days before the Thanksgiving break, so I will not be giving a spelling test or a grammar quiz. We will begin again the week after the Thanksgiving holiday with spelling. Our October book order was sent home today. If you would like to order, please return the form to school by October 23rd. You can also use our class code written on the front of the book order to place an order online.
